We\u00a0came into being at our Inaugural General Meeting, open to all,\u00a0 held on 13th May 2013.<\/p>\n
We received a small start-up grant from Inverclyde Community Fund and a generous grant from Inverclyde Council Grants to Voluntary Bodies, and our subsequent application for substantial Lottery funding was successful, allowing us to order planters for the Piazza and to purchase plants and bulbs. We are very grateful to these bodies for their support.<\/p>\n
Our aim as our title suggests is to brighten up even further our beautiful village. We placed the new planters at the piazza in the centre of the village with the intention of enhancing other suitable parts of the village in due course.<\/p>\n
As the Local Authority was not intending to replant the concrete planters in Birkmyre Park (Knockbuckle Road) they were happy for us to adopt these. Accordingly they have been planted up each year in early summer with summer bedding \u2013 and subsequently watered and given tlc \u2013 by some committee members and then replanted in the autumn to give winter colour and bulbs in springtime.<\/p>\n
Later projects include: spring bulbs at the lay-bys on the outskirts of Kilmacolm, a planter and improved shrub and flower borders at Market Place, half-barrels and a replanted border at the Time Capsule and, perhaps appreciated by locals more than anything else, the clearing and complete replanting of the slope at the Pullman (now Carriages).\u00a0 Three half-barrel planters were placed at the corner of Moss Road and Bridge of Weir Road and two at the top of Smiddy Brae.<\/p>\n
We have also had involvement with a local nursery school,\u00a0 both primary schools, a secondary school and local Guides and Explorer Scouts.<\/p>\n
